Recommendations

After analyzing our research, we have created four recommendations that we believe will be beneficial to Indy Humane as well as other shelters. Our main focus was to find a way for Indiana shelters to communicate and transport animals in a more efficient manner. We found these recommendations to be the most practical for Indyhumane to utilize.

Creating and Sending Out a Mass Email to Local Shelters

  • Create a common email for Indy Humane so that shelters may contact you (indyhumaneresearchteam@gmail.com)

  • Obtain emails for as many shelters around Indiana

  • Email all shelters with pertinent information

  • Wait for their response

Create a Private Facebook Group for Members of a Transport Group

  • Create a private Facebook group for those interested in engaging in animal transport with IndyHumane

  • Consult spreadsheet and survey results to find contact information for potential transport partners

  • Send out a mass email with a link to facebook page

  • Use the Facebook page as a way for shelters to communicate when they are able to hold more dogs or when they need a dog transported

  • Use the Facebook page to share photos of dogs in need of transport

Use MapQuest as a Way to Create Efficient Routes

  • Visit https://www.mapquest.com/routeplanner

  • Select “Allow us to reorder stops on your route”

  • Select “This route is a round trip”

  • Add your starting location in the first blank next to the green icon

  • Click “Preview Route” to view completed optimal map

Use Google Maps as an Alternate Way to Create Efficient Routes

  • On the left, below the destinations, you entered, click “Add” (the blue + icon)

  • To add a stop, choose another destination.

  • To continue adding stops, repeat steps 4 and 5.
